WHY LUO COMMUNITY IN KENYA REMAINS POOR DESPITE HIGHLY EDUCATED

My country Kenya has has a total of 43 tribes but majority of them have several sub tribes.Surprisingly,5 tribes make up to 70% of the entire Kenyan population.
The Kikuyu community is the biggest tribe, which represent 22% of the entire population of 51,987,331 as at 30th April 2019 (estimates)followed by Luhya,Luo,Kalenjin,Kamba and Kisii respectively.

Why then is Luo nation remains among the poorest communities despite being the HIGHLY educated lot in Kenya

Ideally,Luos should be ranked among the wealthiest tribe in Kenya ,but there are basic things they do that negate the short term gains they may have achieved.

Ego
The fist thing that hampers development among the Luo is ego.The most affected are Doctors,Engineers and Professors, who believe that without education, one cannot undertake what is perceived to belong to the average population. It is actually very hard to convince a Luo holding a Phd to sell second hand cloths in Muthurwa,or sell Mutura etc.
Few Luos have never the less ventured into business and have actually succeeded.

Politics
For a long time, the luos have always been led into oposition by their ethnic kingpin Eng.Raila Odinga. This has for a long time made the government of the day to divert the development to other regions where it enjoys full support.Another reason is the crop of leadership we elect into public office. For a long time,Luos have always elected unti-development people to occupy public offices. These people have never had the interest of their electorate at heart except the interest of their party leader, their stomachs, their wives and children.

GREED
This is the main reason why many Luos are stil poor. The few people who have made it are so greedy that they cannot go back down there and pick their fellow Luos who are struggling to reach at the top and place them somewhere in the job market.Nobody in this world cannot make it to the top alone. We all need help a long the way as we climb up the ladder of success.Of all the five main tribes in Kenya,it's only the Luos who will not help a fellow Luo because they have some kind of fear that if they help other luos, they may become more successful than them. This is the mentality that needs to be erradicated because it is a PRIMITIVE/STUPID/USHENZI type of mentality. We see them even in the community welfares we have.Successful welfare members will decline to help their fellows within the welfare who are jobless and then pretend to be friends with a purpose.Kikuyus bring their fellow Kikuyus into the job market,Luhyas the same,Kisiis'the same but Luos never.A luo will decline to help a fellow Luo who is in need get a job while a live but will offer to buy his coffin worth ksh.80,000 in harambee pale Garden Square when he is dead. What a shame!!

Extravagance
Luos are the most extravagant tribe in Kenya. When it comes to spending, they can spend until the cock crows. When salary is credited to their account, there is an effort by the owner to drain the bank account through lavish spending. This is the time a Luo would walk majestically to a car hire to pick a Toyota V8,then call his girlfriend for a nightout. That night, they will spend Ksh.30,000 and remember this is a person who does not even have a grass thatched house in the village and also living in a rental house in the city or town.

Mixed Priorities
Most Luos have mixed priorities.Take for example three individuals earning Ksh.100,000 each.A kisii will rent a Ksh.7,000 house, same for a Kikuyu but a Luo will rent a Ksh.40,000 apartment in Kileleshwa and at the same time buy a Mercedes Benz through a bank loan.A kisii and a Kikuyu will also open small businesses to supplement their income while a Luo will have a yellow yellow lady who will help him squander the salary balance.

Conclusion
A stranger has no right to demand help from another and at the same time, nobody has the right to dictate to you how you spend your money. However,in the spirit of brother/sisterhood,let us help one another grow up economically. It is scientifically proven that an area where only a few people have succeeded, the crime rate is likely to double up and the rich guys in that area will not have humble time to enjoy their wealth because of this increased crime rate.
If 2/3 of your welfare membership are not doing well economically, you are most likely to see a decline in attendance of the meetings which again will affect the mandatory contributions for the operations of the office and hence the vision and mission of the welfare will die,a natural death.
Let Luos give investment a priority and giving preference to hometown investment is much better.
